Four years after releasing their stunning sophomore LP ‘Ash’, which featured the likes of Kamasi Washington and Meshell Ndegeocello, Afro-French Cuban duo Ibeyi are back with a brand new single, titled “Made Of Gold”. The twins (Lisa-Kaindé Diaz and Naomi Diaz) have tapped Gambian-British rapper Pa Salieu, arguably one of the biggest emerging talents of the last 12 months globally, for their latest offering, and the result is truly hypnotic.
Produced by XL Recordings head Richard Russell, “Made Of Gold” sees Ibeyi’s haunting folk vocal nuances punctuate bass-driven percussion. The hook, “My spell made of gold” is stunning and simple, its soft repetition leading into Pa Salieu’s pious verse, and setting the tone for the track’s mystical Daniel Sannwald-directed video.
Taking inspiratin Frida Kahlo’s 1949 painting ‘The Love Embrace of the Universe, the Earth (Mexico), Diego, Me, and Senor Xolotl’, the visuals channel a spellbinding, spiritual energy, with ethereal textures and sensual choreography. Watch it below:
