Multi-talented Sydney-based artist Annie Bass has made a pared-back, moody return with “Hold On”, her first release since her 2019 ‘Control’ EP. Teaming up with longtime collaborator and Melburnian producer Christopher Port for the project, Annie Bass describes it as “a conversation between me, and the darkest part of myself”, birthed out of the realisation that her constant striving for perfectionism was verging on self-destructive.
The track sees Annie Bass’ signature soulful vocals gently distorted, flickering over ticking synths and precision-focused percussion. Having taught herself iMovie in isolation (a huge accomplishment in itself, imo), the multi-instrumentalist created the video for “Hold On”, and the result is an extra magnetic layer, drawing you deeper into the swirling atmospherics until you eventually remember to come up for air.
