Anangu/Torres Strait Islander artist Miiesha has been on a roll since releasing her 2020 debut album ‘Nyaaringu’, which was nominated for five ARIA awards, taking home the prize for Best Soul/RnB Release. Last year, the 23-year-old singer-songwriter released ‘Smoke’, a moody EP sprinkled with reflections and punctured by weighty electronic beats. ‘Mirrors’ arrives as the partner record to ‘Smoke’ (together forming the dual EP ‘Smoke & Mirrors’), and is a continuation of raw storytelling, unpacking tense family relationships, yearning for love, and Miiesha’s journey of healing.
“War” is a standout single on the new EP, spacious and full all at once. Miiesha’s gently distorted vocals glide over meandering percussion, building up emotion over verses before finding steady melodic release in the chorus. Listen to “War” below:
