Real Estate are now probably the biggest indie band in the world that you’re unlikely to have ever really heard of. Their discography contains two absolutely outstanding LP’s – ‘Atlas’ and ‘Days’ – the latter of which was recently named Pitchfork’s 13th best record of the decade, and the former recently named one of my favourite records of all time… by me. It will probably be a bit of time in between drinks before another Real Estate album, but frontman Martin Courtney has just announced his debut solo album ‘Many Moons’ and shared the second single “Northern Highway”. “Northern Highway” sees Courtney sport that ever so laid-back mood, supported by subtle, intricate guitar plucks and hushed drum progressions. What separates this cut from being just a regurgitation of Real Estate is this deft sense of purpose, reflected in the upbeat pacing throughout, and his vocal straining at some points – something Real Estate fans will probably be a little unaccustomed to hearing. I can’t wait for this to be the next best album of the decade…
