Seoul’s Keith Ape has been one of the key figures in Korea’s emergence as a potent force in the global hip hop scene. After going ape-shit viral thanks to his addictive hit “It G Ma” with JayAllDay, Loota, Okasian and Kohh at the beginning of last year, Ape has been heralded as the “Korean OG Maco” thanks to his razor sharp verses, idiosyncratic style and fearless energy. “It G Ma” picked up so much international traction that it drew an official remix video featuring the likes of A$AP Ferg, Father, Dumbfoundead and Waka Flocka. His swift rise to fame and acclaim has also opened doors for Ape in the fashion world, scoring him a one-of-a-kind interactive video collaboration with Converse for his ominous single “Diamonds”.
With so much positive buzz surrounding his envelope-pushing style and heavy-hitting material, it comes as no surprise that Ape has answered the fervent prayers of fans down under and organised his debut headline shows in Australia and New Zealand. After tearing Melbourne’s Howler last night, the fiery Korean emcee has landed in Sydney for a volcanic showing at The Factory Theatre tonight before jetting over to Wellington and Auckland for two more dates.
Tickets are still available for all remaining shows – check out where you can get your own below.
