Just last month, leading LA producer K.Flay (Golden Features, Louis The Child, Kaskade) dropped her addictive tongue-in-cheek single “FML”, racking up hundreds of thousands of Soundcloud streams and affirming exactly why artists across the globe are scrambling to work with her.
Enter emerging US production duo SMLE, who have been on the come-up over the last year with a plethora of potent remixes (Kendrick Lamar, Ellie Goulding, Owl City, Gwen Stefani, Just A Gent) and impressive originals. The boys have now set their sights on K.Flay’s viral hit, lifting the more traditional electronic pop structure of her stunning original and moulding it into a throbbing future bass anthem, complete with reversed warped-out beats, sunny synth lines and subtle organ hooks. SMLE may keep “FML” in a somewhat similar wheelhouse, but why stray too far from such great source material?
