Mid way through last year, Holy Holy broke onto our radar with their debut album ‘When The Storms Would Come‘, a loving ode to the duo’s classic rock heroes Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Pink Floyd. After polishing off a string of local and international tours in support of the LP, frontman Tim Carroll and guitarist/composer Oscar Dawson have returned with exciting news of a sophomore album (pencilled in for early 2017) and its blistering lead single.
“Darwinism” picks up right where ‘When The Storms Would Come’ left off, returning to that mature meld of refined rock melodies, reverb-drenched guitar lines, and thumping drum arrangements. Inspired thematically and lyrically by ‘Seven Types of Ordinary Happiness’ by cartoonist Michael Leunig, “Darwinism” thoughtfully explores the stages of evolution within a relationship. The band also brought trumpet and trombone players Ross Irwin and Kieran Conrau into the studio, hoping to capture the sophisticated energy of bands like The National and Radiohead.
“Darwinism” will be released released on 5th August through Wonderlick Records. Stream the song below:
