The Aussie natives in FAIRCHILD may have settled into Manchester to take on the international music scene, but the formative influence of home has never been lost on the gifted lads. The explosive indie rock six piece broke back onto the scene a few months ago with their epic Temper Trap-esque anthem “Stay Young“, and now we’ve been treated to their ’80s throwback track “Breathless”. As the title track of their impending new EP (due to land early 2016), the measured, sensual groove was recorded on the Gold Coast with frequent collaborator and dear friend Catherine Marks (The Killers, Foals, Wolf Alice). The band worked both individually and in small separate groups, often trading instruments and rough riffs, beats and effects until eventually striking gold.
“Breathless is the most personal song I’ve ever written and it was built inside a computer. We didn’t play it as a band until we recorded live in studio with Catherine,” Frontman Adam Lyons explains. “The gap between creation and performance is what gives the song its personality. Or sexuality, as Catherine might say. In the studio we focused on presentation because the song was already there. It always had been.”
