When Pieater family member Christopher Port isn’t behind the drums for #1 Dads or handling the live sampling for Big Scary, he’s crafting sparse metallic garage music under his own solo venture. After sharing his jarring debut “Bump” last month, the jack-of-all-trades has returned with his masterful follow-up “Heavens”. Structured around choppy male and female vocal samples and a razor-sharp beat, our second taste of his impending ‘Vetement’ EP (due July 15th) is the divine musical blessing we never knew we needed in our lives until now.
“All my favourite records have a strong feeling of spontaneity. A lot of my tracks are formed around “mistakes” that I left in which stops me from over producing the tracks,” Port explains. “The sampled vocals in ‘Heavens’ pull the whole track along. I just cut up the vocals first and created the rest of the track around them.”
