Stepping off the cold, wet streets of Melbourne and into The Forum for the Cosmo’s Midnight show was like stepping into a summer music festival. While hundreds of fans waited for Cosmo and Patrick Liney to jump on stage, old disco hits blasted through the beautiful old theatre, getting everyone more than excited for the show.
When the lights finally dimmed, and the stage lit up, the audience was immediately hit with the Sydney duo’s newest single “C.U.D.I (Can U Dig It?)”. The summery, upbeat song, released earlier this year, was a brilliant start to the night. The brother’s uniquely accompanied their set with live percussion and guitars, which kick-started the crazy energy that would continue for the rest of the night.
The boys then invited Asta onstage to perform “Walk with Me’” – an oldie but a goodie, and an obvious crowd favourite, as it seemed half of the mosh pit was on shoulders. The show was stacked with tracks from their debut album ‘What Comes Next’ that was released last year, and showcased their extensive range of sounds; house, hip-hop, RnB, disco, and funk. Tracks like “Lowkey”, “Dreamer” and “Get To Know” had everyone dancing along with Cosmos Midnight, who seemed to be having as much fun as the crowd was.
Asta returned to the stage to perform their recent Like A Version take ono Moloko’s “Sing It Back”, a brilliant display of the boy’s unique way of genre-blending. Before we even knew it, the show was coming to an end, and the boys had a thousand “thank you”s for the audience, telling us that just four years ago, they were an opening set at The Forum, so to be playing their own, sold-out show at the venue, was a great moment for them both.
Finally, the highly anticipated, Cosmo’s Midnight classic “History” closed off the night, and Asta, once again, tore up the stage with her powerful vocals, matching the high energy of Cosmo and Pat.
